What is digital marketing?
Digital marketing is marketing with digital media as opposed to using traditional media like direct mail and newspapers. But not just that…
So, I should ask then, what is “marketing”?
Put as simply as possible: Marketing is leading the marketplace to value the distinctive benefits your business offers as the best possible solution for their needs.
So, is it like traditional advertising, except through computers, then?
Not exactly. First of all, advertising is only one component of marketing. Second, while people are resistant to being advertised to in general, they are particularly resistant to the interruption of unwanted ads on digital media, where they have more power. Ad-blockers can render advertising messages invisible. Or people can simply click away to another website.
So, if advertising doesn’t work well on the web, how do you market there?
Once you realize your potential customers are more in the driver’s seat travelling on their media highways, you can use that to your advantage, especially since your competitors may not realize it yet.
Ok, I’m all ears- how do you use people’s aversion to being advertised to online to your advantage?
